Shut the Vault

Objective

This is the classic English pub game on tiles 1–9. Shut (flip down) as many tiles as you can. Your score is the sum of tiles still open — lower is better. Shutting every tile is a Shut the Vault (score 0).

How a turn works

• Start with every tile open (standing up).
• Roll two six-sided dice. If the remaining open tiles sum to 6 or less, you may choose to roll one die instead.
• After the roll, shut one or more open tiles whose numbers sum exactly to the dice total. A single tile equal to the total is legal, as is a combination (for example 6 and 3 for 9).
• Then roll again, and so on, until no legal combination exists for the current roll — that is a bust, and your turn ends.

Daily Challenge

Everyone plays the same dice sequence today, versus the computer on Medium. You go first. A new sequence arrives at midnight UK.

Two players

• Each player completes a full turn on a fresh board. First to shut the vault wins outright. Otherwise the lower remaining total wins. Equal scores are a draw.

Online play

• Choose Play Online, then host a room or join with a game code.
• The host takes the first turn. Dice are rolled on the server — the board only animates the faces it is given.
• If someone leaves mid-game, the remaining player wins. After a match you can play again if both stay in the room.

Keyboard

• Space — roll (two dice, or one die when that is the only legal choice).
• 1–9 — select or deselect that tile after a roll.
