Objective
Each round has five real places. Solve the six-figure coordinates (degrees, minutes and seconds) of the true location, then lock them by choosing a variant:
- Locate — you are given the place name. Drop a pin on the unlabelled map. Country borders are marked. Place names are not.
- Identify — the pin is already in the right place on that same unlabelled map. You name the place.
Lock your answer to fade in the labelled map. Both variants use the same places and the same scores.
Coordinates
- The figures are the accurate real-world latitude and longitude of the place, written as degrees, minutes and seconds.
- Some figures are given. Every missing figure is a calculation or an equation to solve (for example 0.7 + 3.3 or n + 8 = 41).
- Hemispheres are shown as N/S and E/W.
Scoring (100 points per pin)
- 100 if you land in the place. For a city, anywhere in that city counts (Elephant and Castle counts as London).
- Landmarks such as Tower Bridge, London need a closer pin, on the landmark itself.
- Then 90, 80, 70… as you get further outside the place.
- Identify uses the same bands: naming London scores the same as pinning London.
A round is a win at 200/500 or more. After the map fades in we name the place, show the compass bearing from your pin, and the driving distance from Google Maps when that API is available.
Modes
- Easy uses an unlabelled map of Britain and Ireland, with country borders.
- Classic uses an unlabelled map of Europe and the nearby coasts, with country borders.
- Hard uses an unlabelled world map, with country borders.
Daily challenge
Everyone receives the same five Classic places. They reset at midnight UK. The first win of the day counts for the league and your streak.
